Maritime & Cultural Tradition Museum of Skiathos has been established in 2015 and it is located in the cultural center “Bourtzi”.
The exhibits describe the long-term shipbuilding tradition of Skiathos. Shipbuilding units which helped in the development of sailing boats. Shipping up to the 19th century, as well as in the evolution of the ocean.
The permanent collection is being consisted of sixteen and more exhibits. Among them, there are some shipbuilding tools, sailboat, designs, representation of traditional wood cutting, rare shipbuilding collections, as well as paintings (end of 19th century) of Skiathos sailboats.
In the section of the exhibition which presents the development of sailing, there are maps, shipping measurement tools and diaries (Bridge diaries, engine diaries), officers and lower crew’s diplomas, a full presentation of ship-bridge liberty type, greek ships’ designs and a small dedication to “Katsonis” submarine which sank near the island of Skiathos in 1943.
