"SKIATHITIKO SPITI" ( house in Skiathos) is an individual effort to preserve and promote the traditional way of life in the last century in Skiathos !
A brace collection embraces the museum of the monastery which includes historical relics. Furthermore, the museum includes several things which were used in ancient Greece, like the collection of "Markos Botsaris" and other native people of the island which were granted to the monastery in order to ensure their rescue as well as for the visitors to visit the exhibition. People from all over the world visit the Monastery of Skiathos in order to admire the Greek culture. In the southern area of the monastery, there is the new of museum in which some of the holy relics are being kept, as well as numerous paintings from the 9nth, 12th, 16th and 19th century. There is also a great collection about valkanian wars which includes papers, texts reports and photographs in order to keep the memories of Greek fights alive through the time.
Maritime & Cultural Tradition Museum of Skiathos has been established in 2015 and it is located in the cultural center "Bourtzi". The exhibits describe the long-term shipbuilding tradition of Skiathos. Shipbuilding units which helped in the development of sailing boats. Shipping up to the 19th century, as well as in the evolution of the ocean. The permanent collection is being consisted of sixteen and more exhibits. Among them, there are some shipbuilding tools, sailboat, designs, representation of traditional wood cutting, rare shipbuilding collections, as well as paintings (end of 19th century) of Skiathos sailboats. In the section of the exhibition which presents the development of sailing, there are maps, shipping measurement tools and diaries (Bridge diaries, engine diaries), officers and lower crew's diplomas, a full presentation of ship-bridge liberty type, greek ships' designs and a small dedication to "Katsonis" submarine which sank near the island of Skiathos in 1943.
The house of Alexandros Papadiamantis (1851-1911), one of the most prominent Greek writers is situated in Skiathos Town. Built in 1850-1860 by the author's father, who was a priest, this house has simple decoration with just a few furniture and family objects.
